Concert and festival PA system for touring and open-air stages
Line arrays flown per side for even coverage front to back, ground-stacked subwoofers for the low end, and networked DSP with the manufacturer presets already loaded.
For a 2,000–5,000-capacity festival stage we plan a 12-box NEXO GEOS LD12 hang (six per side) with 6× Funktion One 21SW152-8 subs in a cardioid block and Adamson PLM 20K44 amplified controllers. The box count above is a typical festival hang for this room size, not a promised stock level; every cabinet is bench-tested and the rigging set is checked before it is crated.
Concert and festival sound is decided by coverage, not by the number of cabinets on the truss. Top boxes aim at the rear rows, lower boxes cover the first few metres, and the result is an even level from the barrier to the back of the field.
Outdoors the air is the enemy: wind takes high frequencies first, so the arrays need enough headroom to stay intelligible at 40 metres without pushing the limiters.
Subwoofers work best as one block on the ground rather than split left and right. Low frequencies need coupling and a solid boundary; spreading them costs output and creates a power alley down the centre.
Load the manufacturer preset for the exact cabinet, lock the limiters, and carry a spare module plus a labelled cable set. Run amplifier channels at roughly two-thirds of rated power so a long day in the sun does not end in a thermal shutdown.
Installer pain points and how we solve them
The three problems that come up most often in this kind of room — and the specific way we plan around each one.
What goes wrong in the roomHow we plan around it
The system has to reach 100 m and still sound clean at the back of the field.
Use an array with real vertical control instead of stacking point-source boxes. GEOS LD12 runs four 12-inch drivers per 58 kg box with integrated rigging; six per side is a working hang, not a front-of-house compromise.
Rigging pins and connectors fail after repeated load-in and load-out.
Every flying pin, shackle and NL4 socket is inspected and photographed before dispatch. Cabinets ship with their rigging hardware attached and bolted down, not loose in a bag, and the lot goes out in flight cases.
One amplifier failure can stop a show.
We build racks with a spare amplifier module in the same case and keep diaphragms, drivers and fuses for the models we sell. The rack ships with a printed signal-flow sheet so a local tech can swap a module without calling us.
Configuration by room size

≤ 500 m²
Small open-air stage
8 line array boxes flown per side, 4x 18-inch subs, one amp rack with touring presets.
841
Why this count
Eight boxes (four per side) with four coupled subs covers 500 m² of standing audience; a 58 kg box per position keeps the hang inside a standard ground-support tower.
16 boxes per side, 12x 21-inch subs, three amp racks and redundant networked DSP.
161232
Why this count
Sixteen boxes with twelve subs adds the low-end headroom a headline act expects, and two processor racks keep main and delay zones independently limited.
How many line array boxes do I need for 5,000 people?
Plan on 12 boxes total (six per side) with 6–8 dual 18- or 21-inch subs for a 5,000-capacity outdoor field, plus front fills. That keeps peaks around 138 dB at the mix position with headroom left for the headline act.
Is the rigging hardware included with the arrays?
Yes when we have it. Each lot is listed with the rigging set we hold; if pins or shackles are missing we say so before you pay and price the replacement. We do not ship a hang that cannot be flown safely.
Can you supply spare diaphragms and drivers?
We keep critical spares for the models we sell and can add a spares kit to the order. Ask for the list for your exact cabinet before dispatch so the kit matches what you are running.
